Award for Mountain Rescue Team

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team has received a prestigious community award.
It is one of just 40 groups to be awarded The Duke of York’s Community Initiative which is presented annually to Yorkshire-based organisations.
Community groups are scrutinised rigorously and are only chosen if they are of “real value to the community, well run and an inspiration to others.”
Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, a Snainton-based charity, was founded in 1965 to help people involved in accidents or natural hazards on the North York Moors, or any other place if requested.
The initiative, which was founded by His Royal Highness The Duke of York in 1998, exists to both encourage and reward innovative and inspirational community projects in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Later this month representatives of Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team will travel to Bridlington Spa’s Royal Hall to attend a luncheon at which His Royal Highness will personally present recipients of the 2013 awards with their citations.
Ian Hugill, public relations officer for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue team said:
“We are delighted to be recognised in this way. As a charity established to serve our local community and one which only continues through the support of our local community we find immense satisfaction and motivation from this Royal award.”
The Duke of York's Community Initiative is an exciting venture which supports community projects throughout Yorkshire and Humberside. It recognises excellence and provides award holders with business management support via a dedicated online Talent Bank, workshops and mentoring.
